Ho Chi Minh City: The closing of the 21st World Military Taekwondo Championships



(25th Oct 2012) Last night, The 21st World Military Taekwondo Championships was closed with impressive emotion, after four days of exciting competition at the Military Zone 7 Arena, Ho Chi Minh City.
To attend the closing ceremony of the 21st World Military Taekwondo Championship are General Phung Quang Thanh - Minister of National Defense of Vietnam; Mr. Le Hoang Quan, Chairman of the HCM City People's Committee and many officials of the World Military Sports Council CISM.

In his closing speech, General Phung Quang Thanh is pleased to announce: The 21st World Military Taekwondo Championship has perfectly succeeded. The delegations has performed their best for national flag colors and international military friendship.

Colonel Van Thovel, representing the World Military Sports Council also made an important statement to evaluate the success of the 21st World Military Taekwondo Championships as well as to praise the organization work of the host Vietnam.

According to the statistics of organizers, 21st World Military Taekwondo Championships, which takes place from October 20th – 24th at the Military Zone 7 Arena, Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City, sees the participation of 210 army athletes from 34 military taekwondo teams around the world.

The athletes have competed in two contents include patterns division and combat division. In particular, this is the first time the patterns division was put into play in the tournament.

Vietnamese team excellently won the 1st prize of patterns division for men and women. This is a great success of the host in asserting its dominance advantage in the techniques of Taekwondo.

In the content of men combat division, the Iranian Army team excellently won the 1st prize. Meanwhile, for the women combat division, the Chinese Army team won the highest position.

Besides, the best arbitrator award was given to Mr. Nguyen Dang Khanh and the host Viet Nam also honored to be awarded the "Fair Play ", voted by the World Military Sports Council. This is the significant premise for Vietnam, so that the country could continue to host many other important tournaments in both civil and military sectors in the future.

The three positions in the overall medals ranking table to the date of closing: the Chinese team won the first position in overall with a 8 gold medals, 1 silver medals and 2 bronze medals; Iranian team ranked second with 3 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals; the third place belonged to the German team with 1 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals. The People's Army of Vietnam team ranks seventh place with 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.
